I had every intention of writing about the ocassionally hyped band Reverend Big O and their new music released on the Swedish net label Go Jukebox! today. But for some reason I was uninspired by any of the new songs this upstart label was offering from Rev O. I didn’t give up and that was smart since I discovered this new group, Baby Blonde and the Downs.
Go Jukebox! was started on May 1st and already they’re leading the field of non-electronic Swedish net labels. All the music and artwork is available for free with no strings attached. Baby Blonde and the Downs are a folk pop band from Malmo. What sets them apart from your standard Will Oldham immatator is their restrained dynamics, intertwined lead female and male vocals and lyrical intensity. Here’s two songs from their most recent single, there are three more songs available on the Go Jukebox! site from an earlier release.
