More awkward lofi swedish rock from James Ausfahrt

Friday, August 4th, 2006

James Ausfahrt (here) has released a 2 cd best of called The Complete Works of James Ausfahrt. Nothing like a 2 cd best of for your debut release especially when you’re still in your twenties. But I’m guessing James doesn’t do much in his life that is traditional or commonplace.

Not a lot of second takes, overdubs or digital recording to be found in this collection.

More from the band Audrey and their new record Visible Forms (Tenderversion)

Thursday, August 3rd, 2006

Audrey and the band’s label Tenderversion have released another song from their new record Visible Forms (wrote about the first single here). I can’t keep writing something new about this band, I’m simply out of adjectives. Regina Spector is the most happening thing I’ve heard lately and this reminds me of a more subdued RS.

The song “Views” has both a beautiful cello that runs through it as well as some crushing guitar. the vocals are mostly hidden beneath the music making whatever the hell the lead singer is singing about both mysterious and intriguing.

Buy the new record, Visible Forms, here. In the US you can buy through Parasol or It’s A Trap.

Garage rock from Sweden’s The Scrags

Had The Fleshtones been born in Sweden I expect they’d still play a scraggly brand of garagesurfrock. Perhaps in a parrellel dimension they were born there and came up with the band name The Scrags instead. The band was formed in 2003 in a small Swedish town with not much to recommend for it. They’ve released a couple loud and fast demo eps that if combined would form a pretty formidable debut lp.

Here’s a sampling:
