Parker Lewis Can’t Lose

Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006

It was too tempting to title this post after the failed Fox show of the same name. Parker Lewis took his band name from that show and even admitted its’ influence on his songwriting to some extent. Parker Lewis makes music for the summer. It’s mostly naive and innocent stuff, but it’s got a feeling of wonderment about it even though the backing music is full of straightforward beats, simple synths and samples (like the backing vocal sample in “Wasting Time”).

His new ep, No boys Are Asleep, is out soon on Sweden’s Kitty Litter Records. Here are two of the three songs on the ep. You’re going to love these.

PS If you think this is just some random swede you can ignore, think again. Lately he’s had opening slots with The Whitest Boy Alive. So I think this is someone you’ll be hearing about soon in the more traditional media.

Fibes, Oh Fibes – Boy band-delicious

Monday, October 2nd, 2006

Do you want to wrap your hidden love of American boy bands in the uber hipness of anything Swedish? Then Fibes, Oh Fibes is your ticket. This six piece band from Gutenberg is unabashedly modeling their music on the worst of American disco pop. This is disco plain and simple, but it’s disco that can be replicated live. Fibes, Oh Fibes features real people playing real instruments, background singers not lip synching and band members that are responsible for writing and producing their own material.

Here’s two new songs from their new 2006 release Emotional. Still disco though, can you deal?
