Electronic drone from Cyborgdeathkill

Friday, January 5th, 2007

I found a group of Swedish artists that have all linked to each others Myspace pages. Not unusual in and of itself but they all have the same type of photos with similar color schemes. The music is pure drone. Cyborgdeathkill is the artist I was drawn to first but I/you should really explore this whole group of musicians. Here’s “I’m Flying Too High” and “No More Hats, No More Smokes”. I’m not capable or well enough versed in drone soundscapes and electronics to comment further.

Juvelen – The one-man boyband! (Hybris, 2007?)(plus a song from Montt Mardie and Andreas Mattsson)

Thursday, January 4th, 2007

It appears Hybris is trying to corner the market on one-man-boybands inspired by Prince who just want to get funky. They’re also making an end run around the aging, slow-moving Labrador Records to become the best little label in Sweden. Their newest signing is Juvelen. When you add him to an already overflowing roster of greats like Montt Mardie, Andreas Mattsson, Kalle J and The Kid you can easily see what I mean.

The first single they’ve released is the ever so catchy “Watch Your Step”. You can buy it here from Hybris via Klicktrack (the most popular Scandinavian digital store). Here’s a track that hopefully will appear on the upcoming debut cd.

Songs from Paddington DC (Bear Quartet) and Stars In Comas

Wednesday, January 3rd, 2007

It looks like the Oxford based record label Actionpop has issued Paddington DC’s songs in d-struction (as well as Stars In Coma’s Monotone of the Rain). Nice to see yet another English label (and ocasional tea room) take a chance on Swedish indie rock.

Early B-sides from Peter Bjorn and John (including a cover of The Concretes’ "Silly Girl")

Tuesday, January 2nd, 2007

By and large I’m one of those types of people who don’t break the law, either the letter or the spirit. So it may seem incongruous that I have two mp3 blogs but on the whole both sites offer 99% free and legal mp3′s. Of course there are exceptions and today is an example of that.

Although maybe it doesn’t exactly count as the label (Planekonomi) that issued this single is out of business. Anyway today’s post features some of the early music of Peter Bjorn and John recorded between 2003 and 2004. These are the b-sides with Television Personalities’ “Silly Girl” being the the single (also The Concretes’ “Teen Girl”). The most interesting thing about these songs is their rawness and lack of pretension (see “Young Folks”).

**REPOST** Kallioinia’s "Castle Pop" (more robot-pop)(Flor & Fauna, Nov. 29)

Monday, January 1st, 2007

(Editor’s note: This’ll be the last repost. All new music from Sweden tomorrow, God willing. Happy New Year!)

For some strange reason I held back on posting new music from the stockholm dj collective/live band Kallioina when I first heard them. It took a cool remix by Rigas to really stoke my interest and now I’m actually torn between the original and the remix (let alone the other tracks I’ve heard). I’ve written about the sound of robots, video games and alien spaceships more than anyone else in the blogosphere (between swedeplease and songs:illinois) and while I’m actually quite a luddite I am always intrigued by these sounds. Add Kallioina to the long list of bands that are pumping out robotic electronica.

“Castle Pop” is the first single from Kallioinia’s debut disc to be released Nov. 29 through Flora And Fauna.
