Cut City – The worst band from Sweden sounds off on all the other bad Swedish bands

Cut City is the worst (read: most derivitive) band you’ll ever hear on Swedesplease (except for that time The Sounds snuck their way in). They’re on here at all simply because they took a swipe at the entire Swedish music industry and the “Export Sweden” publicity machine in the most recent Esquire. Here’s frontman Max Hanssen’s take on the whole Swedish music thang:

“People will argue that Sweden is no more a source of great music than it is a reeking cesspool of people collecting welfare to pursue their oh-so artistic careers and feed their peroxide habits,” he says. “Swedish people are not heirs of anything that can be remotely associated with inevitable success. Our gene pool is as mediocre as any other. Due to ignorance and arrogance, though, we tend to believe the hype that surrounds the Swedish music export industry.”

While I wouldn’t argue that Swedes are genetically superior musicians, I would be comfortable arguing that something about Swedish culture (and perhaps it is simply the governmental support system) has helped spurn all the great music coming out of Sweden. Here’s the whole article. Sad that they had to slag the hand that feeds to even grace these virtual pages. Here’s a song from Exit Decades just out in the states on Gold Standard.
