"Reminisce" about 1985 with Mars TV (riyl Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, any/all synthpop)

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

The hot Swedish music tips are coming fast and furious. They’re helpful especially when blogger rut combines with writer’s block kick in. The lastest tipster comes from Spain and pointed us to Mars TV. Their song, “Reminisce”, encapsulates some of my own feelings about music (and life). Namely how music (and life) seemed so much better in 1985 (that’s part of the chorus of 0f “Reminisce”)

This duo is from Goteborg and their only goal is to play catchy, simple synthpop in a style that is part Depeche Mode and part Pet Shop Boys and all very Swedish.

Mattias and the Everyday Mistakes (plus a new song from Christian Kjellvander)

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

Mattias and the Everyday Mistakes were profiled on Swedesplease about a year ago so it’s time for an update. This band, which clearly is influenced by Moz and maybe Joy Division or the more symphonic Nick Cave stuff, is at the height of its powers with this 7 minute epic.

“Boy On The Hill” is pretty great too from the recent Rip It Up Festival in Sweden.

Everyday Mistakes perform “Boy On the Hill” at Rip It Up on July 7, 2007

P.S. One of my Swedish tipsters (thanks Jimmy) pointed me in the direction of this new song from Christian Kjellvander. It’s purportedly from his upcoming record. Amazing that this was recorded while his car broke down and with the video camera/mic in his cell phone. What’s the world coming to!
