“All the kids in Pakistan dancing” – Housewife Lovers

Monday, November 5th, 2007

It’s been two years since I’ve mentioned Housewife Lovers. The band is still at it and has just released a new single. “Dancing” starts out, “All The kids in Pakistan dancing. All the kids in Vietnam dancing.” The remix by Tobias Lilja makes the song sonically palatable and belies the songs true punk origins. But electro-rock’s all the rage and it must be hard to resist that beat and the energy derived from it.

However “Out Of School”, devoid of an electronic beat, may just be the better song.

(Oscars Grass by Melanie Pullen)

The buzz is coming fast and furious for the newest Sweden export Lykke Li. She’s impossibly over-hyped at the moment. What Became of the Likely Broads has the video of her first single “Little Bit”.

Trainspotter has more remix goodness from Sweden’s Studio.

Obscure Sound gives us a lengthy and comprehensive review of TTA.

My Little Ghost Friend shares two songs from the indiepop darlings The Margarets.

Arjan Writes shares the group Artymove’s cover of Lo-Fi-Fnk’s song “Steppin’ Out”.

When I first wrote about the band Bonnie & Clyde I took them as a retro act that could recreate a certain sound but not one that inhabit multiple genres and styles. Their new song “Snowstorm” prove how wrong I was. The group uses a soaring horn section and a large number of backup singers to tear into this song. Lead singer Fanny Wijk has never sounded so confident and the rest of the band (which has grown to an unwieldy 7 members) compliments her nicely.

With this slightly new sound Bonnie And Clyde may be able to mix it up with other lively Swedish pop bands – I’m thinking of namely I’m From Barcelona and Billie The Vision and Dancers.
