New Shimmery Bedroom Pop From Honorary Swede Band – Fireflies (Lavender/Music Is My Girlfriend, Dec. 4)

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

Oh boy, this is good. But I’m a bit annoyed that I’ve got to be so on top of my game. The new record from Fireflies came out today. Word of it only just hit the internet yesterday and yet Skatterbrain has already beaten me to the punch.

Of course, I should probably tell you that Fireflies is from Malmo, Stockholm, or Gothenberg. But I can’t. The band (really just one guy named Lisle) is from Chicago by way of California and New England. But he squeeks onto Swedesplease due to the fact that his new record is a co-production of two Swedish Labels, Lavender Records and Music Is My Girlfriend.

The first song available to preview is the gorgeous track “X-Mas Song”. Rarely will you hear such a simple and beautiful track as this.

Swedeplease Christmas Mix Graded

Monday, December 3rd, 2007

Swedesplease (and Songs:Illinois) got a little bit of press in the St. Pete Times the other day. It was a nice little writeup of the recent Christmas mix. Here’s the link if you’re interested. Oh and btw the Mix got a grade of B.

New song from Old Lost John (riyl Richard Buckner, J Tillman)

Monday, December 3rd, 2007

I wrote about Old Lost John over a year ago. Since that time he’s released his 2007 release The Ghost Of Calder Mountain, which you can buy from CD Baby here. In the meantime Old Lost john has put up a beautiful new song. This is a song that J Tillman or Richard Buckner would have been thrilled to have written/performed.

Swedish Music Roundup

Big Stereo has the 8-bit influenced dance music from Tobiah.

Man it’s getting a little old linking to Discobelle every week but it’s hard to avoid with tracks like this from Sumo (feat. Juvelen). (p.s. hey guys, can’t you host the songs yourself instead of using YSI and Zshare?)

What Became Of The Likely Broads
has a new song from The Bridal Shop, a tiny indie band that I profiled a while back but one that I can’t get enough of.

Hits In The Car has lovely indie pop from Tellus About The Moon (HITC also featured music by Pet Politics this week).
