Slowcore/shoegaze from Eerie (riyl Galaxie 500, V.U., Jesus and Mary Chain)

Friday, April 4th, 2008

When Pet Politics first appeared a few years back, it was refreshing to hear his diy music. I think this was partly because you could hear that he simply decided it was time to for him to record his songs. There weren’t any meetings, marketing discussions, wardrobe fittings or business consultations/considerations of any kind. He plugged in and just did it.

The same can be said for the project known as Eerie. Of course things were probably more complicated with 6 different people involved. But still there’s an immediacy to the music that can only come from a sincere wish to create something special. It’s been a great week of music at Swedesplease and I hope you enjoy this final offering.

The 4 track ep is available here with artwork and all for free.

New compilation/songs from Vit Päls

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

Vit Päls has put together a limited edition compilation of his best songs from 2007/8. You know I’ve always liked his stuff (here, here, and here).

The band members listed on this recording are a who’s who of Swedish underground pop including Siri from Band In Box, Hans from Houses In Motion and Laban from Canarie Records. The layers of instruments and assorted percussion along with the “sha la la’s” and trumpet solo on the second song are worth the price of admission alone.

The disc is really only available by sending an email to carljohan_lundgren@hotmail.com.

Here’s two new songs from Vit Päls.

Translation please?

The Mexicos (from Sweden!) cover “Out Of Touch” by Hall & Oates and “Hero” by Mariah Carey

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

The Mexico’s continue to try their hand at covers. I wrote about The Mexicos cover attempts of Brian Adams “Everything I Do” and Aaliyah’s “Try Again” here and here. This time they (really just Miguel Hallo) wonderfully butcher a cover of Mariah Caray’s “Hero” and “Out Of Touch by Hall & Oates.

Both songs have been put through The Mexicos’ template of lofi beats, lazy vocals and distorted disco effects. Maybe one day we’ll get a whole covers album in Miguel Hallo’s odd, inimitable and enticing style. Until then just put these in your iTunes wacky cover songs playlist.

Sebastian Fors is keeping it real with his new video. It’s a diy affair recorded in Sebastian’s apartment. The song is called “Galaxies” from the upcoming 10″ ep These Songs Are About You on Nesna Records.

Ambient electronics from Teetie

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

It’s been almost a year since this ambient artist has updated his MySpace and at least that long since I checked back in on him. His songs and the minimalist nature of both his music and web presence is alluring/mystifying. I really love the song “Belmondo” from Teetie’s Mayspace page, but it’s streaming only so I’m linking to a more ambient track called “Kaalutus”. I think it’s just right for a sleepy Tuesday morning.

Kaalutus

P.S. Thanks to something I saw on Nine Bullets, I’ve added a new comment system to Swedesplease. It’s supposed make the site more interactive; we’ll see.
