The ParanoidGarageRock of Wired For Mono

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

The Stockholm based punk/garage band Wired For Mono is doing one of those web 3.0 type of things. The deal is they are using their website to release a song every couple of weeks from their upcoming album. This week it’s the song “Man Behind The Wall”. You can get this song and three others from the band here.

Bye Bye Bicycle’s first single, “Eastside”, off of the upcoming debut LP “Compass” (Bonjour Recordings)

Monday, July 7th, 2008

Bye Bye Bicycle have made all the rounds on the indie pop blogs including posts by myself, indie mp3 and skatterbrain. But it’s been awhile since we last heard from them and they’re back for the summer of `08 with a retooled, even dreamier, sound. The band’s upcoming debut lp is called compass and it will feature this single.

“Eastside” is a bookend and a response to their song “Westside” from their first EP, I can only assume it refers to sections of their Gothenburg hometown. It’s these micro-geographical namedroppings that are so endearing to both locals and fans abroad as well. This song will leave preteen girls and 40-something fans of The Smiths and The Cure swooning.

I’m at the beach for a couple days with very poor wifi (which I quite enjoy). Should be back to regular posting schedule on Tuesday.

New Feedback Drenched Shoegaze EP From The Greencoats

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

Even if the new shoegazey EP by the Greecoats didn’t sound at all like The Jesus And Mary Chain I’d still make the comparison since the band’s first single is called “Honey”. Remember all those J&MC songs about honey, at first it was cool but after a half dozen or so it was kinda like “what’s so great about f#@king honey?”

Anyway this “honey” starts and ends with a blast of distortion. The rhythm guitar is so thick you could cut it with a knife. Over it all soars the lead vocals of Ramo Spatalovic. Buy the new EP here.

Swedesplease In The News (Irish Times) And Electronic Music From Gothenburg’s Jonas & Kapstaden

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

Swedesplease was in the news again. This time in Ireland of all places! The Irish Times did a great profile of Lykke Li where she really let loose on her country and the music industry. At the same time they did a little sidebar about the Swedish music phenomena called “The Swede smell of success” which referenced Swedesplease.

Alright enough about me. I think of Gothenburg as the capitol of the Swedish pop movement, but their are plenty of other genre’s represented by the city. Jonas and Kapstaden are an electronic duo from Gothenburg who have worked with Chuck Morgan among others. J&K have very little other info up on their MySpace but these two songs from 2008 speak for themselves.
