New Song/New EP from Francis

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

I raved about Francis a while back, even naming this upstart cabaret folk punk act the next big thing as part of the M.A.P. series of posts. Well now the band’s debut EP is nearly out (April) and after having listened to the whole thing I am still as high for the band as I was months back. They remind me of the American band The Devil Makes Three or any of the gypsy punk bands that have suddenly appeared over the last few years. What separates them from the pack however is the lead singer’s husky, half whispered, half screamed vocals. Here’s “Beat, Beat, Beat” from the upcoming EP release.

First single from the Paper Merchants (shoegaze meets 80′s pop)

Big distorted guitars (a la The Fall), 80′s influenced shoegazzy vocals, and a hummable tune you say? I’m there. In this case it’s the first single off the forthcoming record by The Paper Merchants titled A Friend Of Mine. “I Don’t Care” is released on the new Swedish label Den Mänskliga Motsvarigheten.
