Christine Owman – “Throwing Knives” (March 11)

It’s always tricky comparing one artist to another. Christine Owman often gets compared to Tom Waits. I can see the comparison but it’s dangerous to compare an artist to someone like Tom Waits; a true original who somehow combined the piano based folk of his early work with the carnival barking experimental krautrock of his later years. Plus his songs are often just so sublime.

I’ll let you decide if the Tom Waits comparison is apt but Christine Owman has a bit of that carnival/circus performer in her and her instrumentation is often unusual and slightly gothic. Here’s a track from her relatively new 2010 release Throwing Knives (releasing on March 11 in the US).
