Chiptunes from “Average Composer”

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Chiptunes made with a Gameboy from a guy living on an island off of the southern coast of Sweden. How can I not write about that?! Average Composer is the name of the project from Björn Ekström. His new EP is called You’re Better Than Potato. And is available in its entirety at Archive.org here or you can purchase one of the limited edition cd’s here.

Adventure Kid revisits/remixes I’m From Barcelona

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

Brrrr!

There were a couple of big developments when I was away last week. I wrote about the biggest yesterday (Hello Saferide anyone!?). And today I write about the most amusing. Adventure Kid released his remix/re-imagination of the new I’m From Barcelona song Music Almost Killed Me. Like his earlier work he has a knack for combing video game blips and beeps with disco beats and some pretty fine remixing.

Laromlab steals from Swede chiptune gods Goto80

Monday, April 7th, 2008

The Laromlab controversy and just plain piracy/plagiarism has struck the Swedish chiptunes scene. The band Goto 80 has just realized their music was also appropriated by Laromlab and used as the musical backdrop to the song “History of the Butt” by Kentucky Prophet.

Any evidence of the song “History of the Butt” including the YouTube video has been wiped from the internet, in fact Laromlab’s complete musical identity has been erased. It’s a little sad but this was the worst case of musical plagiarism I’ve ever heard of.

Here’s the original track titled “Llamawarning”.
