Just something quick today from the Swedish electronic artist known as xorb and his new ep Tiny Sattelites. “Square Air World” is gloomy electronica with hints of doom and death. It’s perfect for the world we live in that is presently gearing up for a pandemic of unknown origin and vigor.

I also wanted to post today so that I could direct you to Songs:Illinois and the new song from The Bobby Mcgee’s (here). L.O.V.E is a perfect blend of twee and indie pop with a big dose of sarcasm thrown in for good measure. If you have liked any of the Swedish indie pop I’ve posted over the years you will love this.

Sometimes remixes take away a little too much from the original song. In the case of this remix of the new single from Cloetta Paris I think Alex Dynamite added too much of his own sound and took away too much of Cloetta’s vocals and presence. Nonetheless, a new song by Cloetta Paris is something to celebrate. This remix is from the single release You and Me by the Stereo on Tabocco Records.

Don’t let the out of phase intro to “Discoliner” throw you off. When that gives way to actual beats, robotic vocals, and sampled chants of la, la, la, la, la, this song really takes off. This comes off a free digital album called Music For Men from the young Swedish trio Stay Ali and is available from the Italian netlabel Signorafranca here now (makes a nice bookend with that Val Venosta post from yesterday).

If Robyn is the princess of Swedish disco than Sophie Rimheden is it’s queen. How cool is it that someone of Sophie’s age can out do any and all younger up and comers in a field dominated by twenty-somethings; let alone the fact that she’s a woman in a man’s business (dj, producer, remixer etc.) Here’s a remix of a track off her new record Traveller.

Swedesplease was in the news again. This time in Ireland of all places! The Irish Times did a great profile of Lykke Li where she really let loose on her country and the music industry. At the same time they did a little sidebar about the Swedish music phenomena called “The Swede smell of success” which referenced Swedesplease.

Alright enough about me. I think of Gothenburg as the capitol of the Swedish pop movement, but their are plenty of other genre’s represented by the city. Jonas and Kapstaden are an electronic duo from Gothenburg who have worked with Chuck Morgan among others. J&K have very little other info up on their MySpace but these two songs from 2008 speak for themselves.

I like the video game intro and the overall sound of “Yelt” by Vargpaktan but once the distorted, processed vocals kick in I get a little ambivalent. Then they start to sound a bit too much like Green Day on speed.

This dj collective from Stockholm has released a number of ep’s. This song is off their latest.

Shit I’m slow on the uptake here’s two remixes already up at Discobelle.
“Dansa” appears to be blowing up on the interweb with the YouTube video already at 50,000 views.

I didn’t have that much to say about Goto 80 (they don’t like MySpace, click to see – so try here as well) when I posted one song back in 2005. I’ll try to elaborate a bit more now. Goto 80 is one of these swedish dj driven 8bit or c64 bands. They elevate the music you remember from 80′s video games to a more danceable, more complex level but usually staying within the framework of the basic sound. On Goto 80′s new record, Made On Internet, for the German label Pingipung, they break out of the mold by adding mc’s, guest artists and a more layered sound. In fact by the end of the song “Happy Daze” it builds to such a cacophony that you’d swear you’ve got multiple files playing at once. On “Error Energy” Anders Carlsson (Goto 80) adds his own vocals to the beeps, blips and whirs making the track more conducive to the dancefloor but maybe less conducive to contemplative listening.
