“Hjorten Gal” is a slight but engaging bit of electronic funk by Mighty Mighty (aka Mathias Söderberg of Stockholm).

Just something quick today from the Swedish electronic artist known as xorb and his new ep Tiny Sattelites. “Square Air World” is gloomy electronica with hints of doom and death. It’s perfect for the world we live in that is presently gearing up for a pandemic of unknown origin and vigor.
I also wanted to post today so that I could direct you to Songs:Illinois and the new song from The Bobby Mcgee’s (here). L.O.V.E is a perfect blend of twee and indie pop with a big dose of sarcasm thrown in for good measure. If you have liked any of the Swedish indie pop I’ve posted over the years you will love this.
…complete with donkey-headed, bikini-clad zombies.

Örnsberg is the work of Johan Ragnarsson. His first album, Redlinespotting, will be available in April on the London based label Perfectly Charming Records. This track is off that forthcoming record and it nicely blends anthemic pop with electronic touches.

The other day I went off on aging pop stars attempting to connect with teens through music that is base and exploitative. The post revolved around a song/video by Oh No Miriam! called “Teenage Love”. Well now here’s another song by a teenager entitled “Teenage Love”. The band in question is basically a 16 year old Stockholm kid that goes by the name of Sandstream. This is the first single by the group (the Myspace page went live 4 days ago) and it is a duet with a mysterious female singer.
The song starts out with a robotic introduction but this is not Daft Punk electro trash. Instead it’s melodious electro-pop with its roots in English dance pop of the 80′s and 90′s (Depeche Mode, Cure, Echo and the Bunneymen etc etc). The duet is one of the elements of the song that sets it apart, the other is the earnest vocals of the male lead singer. Let me know what you think of this in the comments…I’m going to leave this post up for a day or two to let this settle in.

Don’t let the out of phase intro to “Discoliner” throw you off. When that gives way to actual beats, robotic vocals, and sampled chants of la, la, la, la, la, this song really takes off. This comes off a free digital album called Music For Men from the young Swedish trio Stay Ali and is available from the Italian netlabel Signorafranca here now (makes a nice bookend with that Val Venosta post from yesterday).

All of my carping about the greatness of the Swedish electronic duo Val Venosta has paid off with an exclusive sneak peak of their upcoming EP Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Wolf.
“I Think Billy Wilder Would Like This” expands on the earlier songs of Val Venosta. The robotic synthesized vocals and thumping beats are still present but now the melody is a little more present and the indecipherable chorus is pushed to the front of the song. All in all a great song to get 2009 off on the right foot.
I Think Billy Wilder Would Like This!
P.S. Songs:Illinois is back with an exclusive first listen to a track from the Brooklyn based gypsy punk group Luminscent Orchestrii here.

Ghostpony have sent me another track from what must be their new EP. It’s as funky as the earlier stuff I posted here.
P.S. I’ve added Metro Jets “Jingle Jangle Christmas” to the Swedesplease Christmas mix.

Sticking with yesterdays theme of experimental electronic music from Sweden, here are a couple short vignettes from Smulton. Check out how the organic (kalimba) or odd percussion sounds mix with the electronic.

Just because our “New Faces of Swedish Electronica” week is over it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have more beat heavy Swedish music on Swedesplease. The Stockholm based band MFMB combines electronica beats with shoegaze fuzz and agro vocals. It’s an od mixture and one I haven’t really heard since the UK groups New Model Army or The Damned.
The bands’ new ep is called The Fine Detail and is available as a free download here (updated link – thanks to those who wrote in).

While much is up for debate around the globe at the moment -the war, the economy, the environment. There can be no debate that I’ve been Val Venosta’s earliest and biggest fan. All that saber rattling on my part hasn’t done an once of good however. But perhaps this remix of “Womanizer” will get the ball rolling. But you should really go back and read and listen to my earlier posts. Thanks to Tiffany for pointing this one out.
Here’s Val Venosta’s take on Britney Spears’ “Womanizer”:
Nilof is two kids from Stockholm who combine c64 blips and beeps with driving and bruising techno. Their song “Be Kind Rewind” (one of my favorite films btw) encapsulates their sound rather well.

I’m trying to not have this week of techno peak too soon. But that’ll be hard since Databas is up next.
Databas is Albin Karlsson from Jönköping. But Databas is more than that, there is an elaborate story of aliens, robots and a mysterious coded message. There’s more info at his MySpace.

With of all things a mash up of Spanky and Our Gang and Sebo K.

Ghostpony went live on Myspace yesterday. They have no comments yet and only a couple friends (influential ones though like Lykke Li, Juvelen, and Rigas). Needless to say the band (one guy?) doesn’t have much of a biography/discography yet, which is good because I don’t have any time to parse it (I’ve got to work out and then pick up the kids at school). What I do know for sure is that these two songs below are on a 5 song EP that’s due out in November. Contact the band through MySpace for more info.
“Love To Hate” isn’t mindless techno. It tells a cute little story of a relationship gone bad. The synthesized guitar solos and groovy beats are a nice addition. Think a more deranged Depeche Mode, Prince in his Black Album period, or a subtler, more refined NIN. So what do you think? Don’t leave me hangin’ in the comments section.

How `bout a little drum `n bass combined with just a hint of the circus atmosphere associated with Gogol Bordello. That’s a bit of what you get from the new album from Bazooka Circus.

I can’t say it better than Powerblade’s MySpace description:
Two indie boys that grew up with too much videogames and eurodisco…
In the song “Go Or Stay” they ask the question are they good enough to make it. Should there music go or stay? Well should it?

Here’s some more electro pop trash from the Swedish based duo Klassfest. This song is taken from the new EP Pure which you can pick up for free over at the band’s MySpace page.

If Robyn is the princess of Swedish disco than Sophie Rimheden is it’s queen. How cool is it that someone of Sophie’s age can out do any and all younger up and comers in a field dominated by twenty-somethings; let alone the fact that she’s a woman in a man’s business (dj, producer, remixer etc.) Here’s a remix of a track off her new record Traveller.

Brrrr!
There were a couple of big developments when I was away last week. I wrote about the biggest yesterday (Hello Saferide anyone!?). And today I write about the most amusing. Adventure Kid released his remix/re-imagination of the new I’m From Barcelona song Music Almost Killed Me. Like his earlier work he has a knack for combing video game blips and beeps with disco beats and some pretty fine remixing.

Happiness. has an upcoming Split LP with Tar…feathers on Adagio. It’ll be limited edition 600 lp run of pink and green vinyl. Here’s a song from the lp called “Look At That Rabbit Go”.
