Elisabeth & Stefan form the duo Leaving Mornington Crescent from Malmö, Sweden. I’m pretty sure that’s them kissing in the photo above. They have a 3″ split cd available on Cloudberry. Their new record is on the Peruvian indie pop label Susy Records. It’s once again a 3″ cdr but this time there are 6 new songs. Buy it now from Susy – it’s a limited edition consisting of 100 numbered copies.

From the sound of “Seventeen” the band ventured into new territory. Unlike the sunny 60′s inspired indie pop of “April Song” from the Cloudberry split cd, “Seventeen” is a rather heavy, shoegaze number with buzzing and churning guitars and a solid backbeat. Still the vocals retain the cheeriness of “April Song” with a chorus of “I’m seventeen on the inside, the only difference is…”.

Sometimes the term shoegaze implies a bit of an laid back, passive sound (yes, still a wall of sound, but a restrained wall of sound). On this song from the Swedish band Zeit you get an epic brand of shoegaze. It’s at once heavy and oxygen starved and at other times fragile (tamborines about halfway in).

This song is from the band’s new EP The Glued and Honeydripped (available through The Pirate Bay). The band is currently recording songs for their upcoming debut album; contact them through Myspace and let `em know you like their sound.

Happiness in Times of Misery

Big distorted guitars (a la The Fall), 80′s influenced shoegazzy vocals, and a hummable tune you say? I’m there. In this case it’s the first single off the forthcoming record by The Paper Merchants titled A Friend Of Mine. “I Don’t Care” is released on the new Swedish label Den Mänskliga Motsvarigheten.

I Don’t Dare

Örnsberg is the work of Johan Ragnarsson. His first album, Redlinespotting, will be available in April on the London based label Perfectly Charming Records. This track is off that forthcoming record and it nicely blends anthemic pop with electronic touches.

Every City

Even if the new shoegazey EP by the Greecoats didn’t sound at all like The Jesus And Mary Chain I’d still make the comparison since the band’s first single is called “Honey”. Remember all those J&MC songs about honey, at first it was cool but after a half dozen or so it was kinda like “what’s so great about f#@king honey?”

Anyway this “honey” starts and ends with a blast of distortion. The rhythm guitar is so thick you could cut it with a knife. Over it all soars the lead vocals of Ramo Spatalovic. Buy the new EP here.

Honey

Tell me, what’s better than indie laptop pop? Swedish indie laptop pop, of course. Kuryakin have been perfecting their songs since they formed in 2003. Now through a series of ep’s and singles they are ready to unleash their perfect pop unto the world. Their debut ep, Still Here, is out now on Shelflife, they also have a two song ep called Fought A War out on the Japanese label Fast Cut here.

The title track encompasses all that Kuryakin strive for with it’s moody beats, floating synths and laid back vocals. Other songs from the ep incorporate shoegazey guitar solos and a bit of noise. But this is pure sugary pop at it’s best.

Still Here

When Pet Politics first appeared a few years back, it was refreshing to hear his diy music. I think this was partly because you could hear that he simply decided it was time to for him to record his songs. There weren’t any meetings, marketing discussions, wardrobe fittings or business consultations/considerations of any kind. He plugged in and just did it.

The same can be said for the project known as Eerie. Of course things were probably more complicated with 6 different people involved. But still there’s an immediacy to the music that can only come from a sincere wish to create something special. It’s been a great week of music at Swedesplease and I hope you enjoy this final offering.

In The Twinkle Of An Eye

Welcome visitors from Australia. Like the article in the Courier Mail said, you won’t find much in the way of popular Swedish pop or rock here. Instead what you’ll find here at Swedesplease is some of the plethora of undiscovered independent artists that Sweden produces. We link to only free and legal music, so no guilt involved (and no we didn’t break the band Shout Out Louds).

Paper’s been around for years as a side project but they claim to be finally getting their act together. Through an arrangement with Novoton their new ep will be released through that label and digitally through the Swedish digital store – Klicktrak.

The new 4-track EP is called This Is To Her and is available this week. The band used to stick primarily to the garage rock of the 60′s but of late they have a more shoegazey/late 80′s Europunk sound (reminiscent of early Gang of Four, The Fall, Echo and The Bunneymen etc). I’m liking the single “To Her”; hope you enjoy it as well.

Jettie is preparing to release a new record in Sweden on Nov. 7 (it’s available now as a digital only release, soon to be out in the US on Eyeball Records). 97% of my posts are because I love the band, the sound, or find something about the song intriguing. I’ve got to admit it though, for me, posting this song by Jettie is more about getting to it first than it is about my love for this song. Hey, but at least I’m honest, right?
